This expedition was implemented in 2009 by three research institutions of Belgium: the Africa Museum, the Royal Institute of Natural Sciences and the Botanical Garden with researchers also from the University of Kisangani and Kinshasa (DR Congo), from 3 Universities in Belgium (K.U. Expédition réalisée en 2009 par trois institutions de recherches en Belgique: l' Africa Museum, l' Institut Royal des Sciences Naturelles et le Jardin Botanique, avec des chercheurs aussi de l' Université de Kisangani et de Kinshasa (DR Congo), de 3 Universités en Belgique (K.U. Leuven, R.U. Gent, V.U. Brussels) et de l'Université de Davis, California (USA). Il s'agissait d'une expédition préparatoire. Expeditie uitgevoerd in 2009 door drie onderzoeksinstellingen in België: Afrika Museum, Koninklijk Instituut voor Natuurwetenschappen en Botanische Tuin, met onderzoekers ook van de Universiteit van Kisangani and Kinshasa (DR Congo), van 3 Universiteit in België (KU Leuven, RU Gent, VU Brussel) en van de Universiteit van Davis, Californië (VS). NOTE ON TAXONOMICAL WORK:
When animal taxons are studied by researchers, specifically taxonomists, often it is necessary to capture them (insects, butterflys ,rats, snakes etc....) to describe them and this may hurt people who do not understand why this is done. But the scientific work has not option here in the very great majority of cases. The description of animals is necessary for scientific work. Knowing an animal that carries a disease for example is very important to adress this issue and help human population that are at risk. This is the price to increase the knowledge, else we would be in a world rejecting sciences and progress could not be carried on. There is often a balance here that one has to evaluate before rejecting an action without knowing why it was implemented.
Please, note that I am not a taxononomist and that this could be better expressed than here !

This expedition was done in close collaboration between Congoleese researchers and foreign researchers. The collaboration was really excellent and during the main expedition in 2010 also.
